The Thousand Oaks office of Comfort Keepers, owned by the family of Ellen and Andy Smith, was founded in 2002. This work is a labor of love for Ellen and Andy, because their own mothers and fathers were their inspirations. Andy's father,with the help of loving caregivers, was able to stay at home until the end of his life, at the age of 104. Andy is sure that his mother would not have also lived to a ripe old age if she hadn't had care giving help for her husband as he grew increasingly frail.
Ellen believes that her beloved caregivers who provided in home care saved her mom's life more than a few times! She lived until age 96, and has inspired Ellen to help provide compassionate care to Comfort Keepers elderly clients.
Ellen and Andy are passionate and driven to make sure that they and their staff treat the elderly the way their own elderly parents were treated. The owners biographies:
Ellen Smith, M.A., LMFT, Co-Owner of Comfort Keepers is the Client Care Manager. She has a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, and a Bachelors Degree from the University of Wisconsin. Ellen is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. For Comfort Keepers, she oversees all client homecare, has done 1,400 assessments in people’s homes, continuously solves problems, and has helped families deal with issues of aging since 2002. Ellen was the Patient Educator at a cancer clinic for 10 years, and following that career, was a therapist in private practice for 10 years. She has overseen all client care for Comfort Keepers for over 14 years.
Ellen Smith was recognized by the Simi Valley Council on Aging for her volunteer working for many years as the Facilitator and Leader of a Family Caregiver Support group for the Alzheimer's Association.
Andy Smith, M.S., Co-Owner of Comfort Keepers, is the Business Manager. He has Bachelors and Masters Degrees from a major university in Los Angeles. He ran his own executive search business for 16 years, and has been hiring, or consulting to the hiring process for 35 years. Andy oversees an extensive and rigorous hiring methodology, to make sure that they hire only the women and men on their Most Valuable Caregiver team that are the “gems” of the homecare caregiving world. One of Andy’s main goals: to raise the ethical standards of Thousand Oaks seniorcare.
